I'm finally gettin around to doing a project that I've been wanting to do since I got my mill. Make my own companion cube completely from scratch. My own CAD file and everything. Currently, one side is finishing up in the mill and it looks great.
Companion Cude side during step 3 of 4
One is finally done! Just 5 more to go...
We were able to cut it down to 2 steps. Second side currently being milled. Started at 1:13. Ended at 3:27.
Beginning of companion cube side
Half way there!
We got new bits for our new 1/4 inch collet. I redid the tool path settings so we can use a 1/2 inch bit. Estimated timing had been cut dramatically.
This bit is terrifying
Turns out my matchine does not have enough torque for that bit. I changed the settings to use a 1/4 inch bit and it's a lot less intimidating. Hopefully this one does better. The estimated time is still cut a lot more than it was before.
Started the last side at 6:48 and finished at 9:28 with some pauses to change bits and let the machine cool down.
Corners are cut to a 45 degree angle. Now it's time for glueing. It's going to be a tricky multi-step process.
